‘Every Conversation Matters’
Child protection is all about ensuring that as a society we remain focused on ensuring every child, in every community knows they matter! As National Child Protection Week approaches (1-7 September 2024), we are reminded of our mission and responsibility to ensure that all individuals in our care receive the support and protection they deserve. This year’s theme, "Every Conversation Matters," highlights the importance of our interactions in creating safe, trusting environments where everyone feels heard and valued.
Reflecting our Lasallian values of justice, compassion and respect, this theme underscores that every conversation—whether with children, young people, or adults at risk—can make a significant difference. By actively listening and engaging with empathy, we help those in our care feel supported and understood.
In the words of our Founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle, “Be warm-hearted to everyone, speaking to others in a gentle and respectful way,” we are reminded to approach our interactions with kindness and respect. We are called to be proactive in safeguarding, fostering open dialogue, practising active listening and collaborating with families to ensure a safe environment for all.
The Lasallian District of Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Pakistan (ANZPPNG) is committed to ensuring that children, young people and adults at risk are safeguarded from harm and are respected and nurtured.
Let us use National Child Protection Week to reaffirm our commitment to every person’s right to thrive in a supportive environment. Embrace the theme, "Every Conversation Matters," it is not just an opportunity to create spaces for real dialogue it is also an opportunity to speak up and out about what needs to change if we are to truly ensure that every child has the means to flourish.
