Groundbreaking Ceremony: A New Chapter in Education at Our Technical Secondary School
On the morning of Wednesday, 16th October 2024, the teachers, staff, and student leaders gathered in anticipation of a momentous occasion: the groundbreaking ceremony for a new 2 x 4 classroom at our Technical Secondary School. This milestone not only marked the evolution of an educational institution that had served our youth for over half a century but also symbolised hope, progress, and the collective efforts of many dedicated individuals and organisations.
Founded as a youth development centre 51 years ago by the Brigidine Sisters from Australia, this remarkable school began its journey driven by a vision to empower the young minds of our community. As time progressed, it transitioned into a FODE school, adapting to the evolving educational needs of our society. By then, it stood proudly as a Technical Secondary School, dedicated to equipping students with the skills and knowledge that would guide them into successful futures.
The total cost of the new classroom project was an impressive K1.8 million, reflecting a deep commitment to advancing education and training opportunities for our students. The school was proud to announce that K600,000 had been secured, with an additional K1.2 million anticipated from generous donors and the Papua New Guinea Government. This financial backing illustrated the trust placed in our school’s vision and the shared belief in the transformative power of education.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Fr. Chris Hifo and esteemed guests who offered words of encouragement and gratitude. A special acknowledgement was given to our donors and sponsors whose unwavering support made this project possible. Their belief in our mission had empowered countless students and created a ripple effect in our community, inspiring future generations.
Special thanks were extended to the De La Salle Brothers, who had been instrumental in nurturing our school’s values and creating a strong foundation for our educational framework. Their guidance and unwavering support had been a beacon of light, leading us toward our shared goal of excellence in education.
As the shovels turned the earth, a sense of unity and excitement filled the air. Student leaders, staff, and esteemed guests stood shoulder to shoulder, witnessing the birth of a new chapter in our school’s history. This new classroom would not only enhance the learning experience but also provide students with the tools they needed to thrive in a competitive world.
The project was slated for completion by June 2025, and the promise of a brighter future for our students had never felt closer. As we looked forward to the opening of this new classroom, we were reminded that education is a collective endeavour. It requires the passion, commitment, and generosity of all students, parents, teachers, and community members alike.
In closing, that groundbreaking ceremony was more than just a ceremonial event; it was a celebration of community spirit, collaboration, and a shared vision for a brighter future. We were immensely grateful to everyone who had played a part in this journey. Together, we were building more than just a classroom; we were laying the foundation for enduring success and endless possibilities for generations to come.
