The Lasallian Foundation Enables La Salle High School Khushpur to Upgrade Classroom and Staffroom Furniture

In a significant boost to education in rural Pakistan, the Lasallian Foundation has funded a comprehensive furniture upgrade project for La Salle High School Khushpur. This initiative has transformed the learning environment for hundreds of students in this Catholic village, showcasing the foundation's commitment to improving educational facilities in underserved communities.

Founded in 1961, La Salle High School Khushpur has been a beacon of hope for poor children in the area, offering a balanced and quality education. The school's impact grew substantially in 2010 when it expanded to include a primary section for both boys and girls, responding to the community's evolving needs.

The need for improved infrastructure became apparent as the school's enrollment grew to 456 students, including 146 girls in the primary section. Recognising this need, the Lasallian Foundation stepped in with a grant of 10,000 (approximately 1,823,680 Pakistan Rupee) to fund a comprehensive furniture upgrade project.

The project, overseen by Principal Br. Zohaib Gill (Headmaster), Mr Sajid Aftab, and Br Adan Malik enabled a wide range of improvements:

  1. New classroom furniture, including student benches and desks

  2. Teacher chairs, tables, and daises for classrooms

  3. New furniture for the staffroom

  4. Installation of softboards in classrooms and corridors for academic displays

  5. Repair of existing classroom furniture and cupboards

  6. Installation of new whiteboards in select classrooms

The upgrade has had an immediate and profound effect on the school community. Six classrooms now boast entirely new furniture, providing students with proper seating and writing surfaces for the first time. The staffroom has been revitalised with new tables and chairs, creating a more conducive environment for teachers to prepare lessons and collaborate.

Approximately 430 students and 31 teachers are direct beneficiaries of this project. The improved learning environment is expected to enhance educational outcomes and student engagement. Moreover, the upgrade supports the school's growth trajectory, particularly its increasing enrollment of girls in the primary section.

Looking ahead, the school administration is considering starting a level six class for girls, responding to requests from village parents. The upgraded facilities will be crucial in accommodating this expansion and furthering the school's mission of promoting Catholic education in the area.

The La Salle High School Khushpur upgrade project exemplifies how targeted support from organisations like the Lasallian Foundation can make a substantial difference in educational settings. By improving the physical learning environment, the foundation has invested not just in furniture, but in the future of hundreds of students in rural Pakistan.
