Vocations Prayer - January 2023

This month’s Vocation “prayer day” coincides with the Feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul the Apostle (25 January 2023).  In the Gospel reading set down in the liturgy for the Feast, the Apostles are commissioned to, “Go out to all the world: proclaim the Good News to all creation” (Mk 16:15).  It is the call of every disciple to make known the message of Jesus – “to abide in his love and then go into the world making disciples of the nations by announcing to them that they are loved.”  De La Salle tells us, “Since you are ambassadors and ministers of Christ Jesus in all that you do, you must act as representing Jesus Christ himself.” Jesus gave us directions on how this should look: feed the hungry, care for the sick, clothe the naked, visit those in prison. To be like Jesus we look beyond ourselves and toward the needs of others.  We pray that at the beginning of this new year we may heed the call to love and serve those most in need.
