2023 Institute Statistics: The Continuing Evolution

The De La Salle Brothers have continued to foster our educational and spiritual mission with notable developments in our organisation over the past year. In 2023, the number of Brothers stands at 2,883, reflecting a strong and enduring commitment to our calling.

The number of novices has reached 83, with 285 aspirants and postulants, showing a steady increase from the 266 recorded in 2022. This growth signifies a continued interest and dedication among new members, which is encouraging for the future of our Brotherhood.

The average age of the Brothers internationally in 2023 has shown an interesting trend, recorded as tied between 64 and 66 years old. This contrasts with the previous year's average age, which was more clearly defined as either 65 or 32 years old, depending on the region. This variation may suggest a more balanced age distribution within our Brotherhood or an influx of younger members that balances the older demographic.

Our educational outreach remains extensive, with a total of 1,154 schools and works. These institutions cater to an impressive 1,160,328 students, highlighting the significant impact of our educational mission on a global scale.

In terms of teaching staff, there is a substantial representation of both male and female educators. The total number of male teachers includes 41,114 laymen and 1,518 FSC Brothers, summing up to a total of 42,632 male teachers. Female teachers are also well-represented, with 444 religious sisters and priests alongside 64,751 laywomen, bringing the total number of female teachers to 65,195. This diverse teaching staff underscores the inclusive and comprehensive nature of our educational framework.

The slight increase in the number of aspirants and postulants, along with the nuanced age statistics, suggests a period of stability and gradual growth for the De La Salle Brothers. The robust numbers of schools, students and teachers reflect the enduring strength and reach of our mission. These figures underscore the continued interest and dedication towards joining the Brotherhood and supporting our educational and spiritual goals.

In summary, we are experiencing a phase of stability with slight growth in new memberships and a nuanced shift in age demographics. Our extensive network of schools and substantial student body, supported by a diverse and dedicated teaching staff, highlights the significant impact and ongoing success of our mission. These developments emphasize our resilience and adaptability as we continue to fulfill our educational and spiritual commitments worldwide.
