Bullying

Lasallian schools invited to join in!!

Join yourtown’s Kids Helpline in taking a stand against bullying with Kids Helpline's Largest Anti-Bullying Lesson on 16th August as bullying is a sad reality for far too many young people across Australia.

In fact, Australian teens face the second highest level of bullying among 24 OECD countries. It’s time for a change, which is why we’re proud to share the launch of Kids Helpline’s Largest Anti-Bullying Lesson.

The goal? To reach as many high school teens as possible from across Australia and have them join in a virtual live-stream session run by a Kids Helpline counsellor.

Right now, Kids Helpline is putting out the call to high school teachers across Australia to register their class, grade or school - and we need your help to reach them!

Kids Helpline’s Largest Anti-Bullying Lesson is aimed at empowering high school students with the knowledge and tools they need to stand up against bullying, while making sure young people know support services, like Kids Helpline, are here to help.

Held during Bullying No Way Week, the 45-minute session is based off Kids Helpline @ School’s popular ‘Bullying: It ends with us’ topic.

Based on the latest research, students will learn to understand what actually is bullying, what its impacts are, practical in-the-moment responses, as well as looking after themselves and others.

Sound like something your own teen and school would be interested in?

Make sure you reach out to your school and share the details!

Why we’re taking a stand this Bullying No Way Week…

• Australian teens face the second highest level of bullying among 24 OECD countries.

• 85% of teens told Kids Helpline they’ve experienced bullying.

• 1 in 10 contacts to Kids Helpline last year were related to friendship and peer-related concerns.

Kids Helpline is dedicated to helping young people navigate the challenges they face, including bullying.

In 2023 alone, bullying accounted for 5% of Kids Helpline’s counselling sessions, while friend and peer relationships, which often involve elements of conflict and bullying, accounted for 10% of counselling sessions.

It’s important to remember - bullying can be harmful for mental health. When young people reach out to Kids Helpline, they know they’re getting quality mental health support they can trust, with every single counsellor a university qualified, paid professional (not a volunteer). Kids Helpline counsellors are specialists in helping young people.
