Making a Difference!

St. Michael's College Adelaide—named for Michael the Archangel—is a great example of how Lasallian principles continue to thrive in our educational works. Founded by the De La Salle Brothers in 1952, this co-educational school serves nearly 2000 primary and secondary school students on two campuses at Henley Beach and Beverley. The school is the only Lasallian school in South Australia.

In 1994, St Michael's College was the first Catholic school in Australia to "develop and implement a comprehensive Bullying and Harassment Policy." Today, the Beyond Borders program welcomes refugee children and families of all faiths as they transition to mainstream schooling, providing them with academic, social, and financial support.

St. Michael's College has been a strong and consistent supporter of the Lasallian Foundation for nearly twenty years. During that period, nearly $750,000 has been donated by students, parents, staff workplace giving program and the local community towards Lasallian educational projects in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly in Pakistan and Papua New Guinea. In recent years, donations from the school have been used to purchase new textbooks for La Salle Technical Secondary School in Hohola (PNG), construct new security walls at Alban's Boys and Girls High School in Multan (Pakistan) and La Salle Girls' High School in Gokuwal (Pakistan) and new water and sanitation facilities at St Solomon's School, Ahmedabad (Pakistan).

From their 2023 Mission Action Day activities, St. Michael's College raised another $50,000 for the Lasallian Foundation. From this donation, $18,000 will be used to construct 10 new washrooms at La Salle Girls' High School, Gokhuwal, Pakistan, to accommodate the growing number of students attending the school. Gokuwal is home to a significant number of Christian families whose income is derived from the work of fathers as day labourers and whose housing is very basic. Many girls in Pakistan do not get the opportunity to attend school, particularly those from poor communities, and La Salle Girls' High School serves a real need by providing a quality education for the girls in a very poor area. The remaining funds from the donation will be allocated to the construction of a new block of seven classrooms and a computer lab, supplementing a significant grant for the project that was received from the O'Brien Foundation.

The Lasallian Foundation is most appreciative of the support that it has, and continues to receive, from St Michael's College, as well as other Lasallian schools, private donors and funding organisations. Tax-deductible donations to the Lasallian Foundation can be made on the Foundation website at www.lasallianfoundation.org.au.
