Let us Remember - The Founder as Patron of Educators

‘Let us remember' is a prayer and reflection resource offered to Lasallian schools and works. It might be used for individual prayer and reflection or at the beginning of team/faculty meetings, staff briefings or whole staff meetings. There will be a different focus for each reflection and over time a library of prayers and reflections will be developed for use.

Today’s focus is: “The Founder as Patron of Educators”

In our Lasallian schools just within Australia the number of young people enrolled ranges from nearly 90 to nearly 2000. Within yourtown, including Kids Helpline, there are nearly 900 members of staff (including over 600 women), to say nothing of the thousands of young people, including young parents, whom these people care for in an amazing range of services.

Yet in all our ministries, concern for the wellbeing of each person is a priority; organisational structures are in place to ensure that every one of them is well known by at least one significant adult.

This is not just a Lasallian priority. As it is, no doubt, in other jurisdictions, the first item in, for example, the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers is “Know students and how they learn”. Under this heading is a very challenging outline of what a teacher is expected to know – quite apart from the subject area or service in which she or he works…
